Break "registration flow" into multiple phases

Currently, registration flow is: Consent -> Register -> Basic info -> Availabilities -> Choose tutor -> Typing test -> Entry test (vocab) -> Start. This is too long: we risk loosing many potential users. So, need to break into steps:

• Phase1: Consent -> Register -> Basic info -> Availabilities -> Choose tutor OK
• After phase 1 (at least after basic info): redirect to the chat, but warning "please do the typing test" & "please do the entry test"
• Shorten typing test

Still needs some more thinking:

• Show Typing test + List of tests (?) in menu
• If needed (?), typing test can be done multiple times (> register each attempt separately?)
• Entry test (whatever it is defined as) should only be possible once. Other tests might be accessible in the menu.
• Final/post-test only available once; once possible, shown in menu(?) after x weeks(?) or after x sessions (?)

Rather than "physically" split the flow, shouldn't we add a page between the phase 1 and phase 2, saying briefly that the app is now usable "as-is", with a button to go to the main page, but also tell them that they can continue right now?

As a normal user, I think it's nice to be able to do all the "paperwork" by default at the beginning, with an escape in case of need, of course.

Yes, very good point. I agree with the way you formulate it.

Now, apart from how it looks to the user (discussed above), I understand that also means we need to modularize this workflow by having each test after Register and eventually after Basic Info accessible as an autonomous page (as Availabilities) -> autonomous typing test, vocab test, and eventually basic info edition

A new section "continue" as been added just after tutor selection to let the user choose between "continue to the tests" and "start directly with the application". For now, entry tests are not yet implemented in the flow (at all), because I'm waiting the thinking to be done.

Ideal workflow:

• We have a list of ongoing studies (current study = 1)
• Participants register within a study, via URL: https://languagelab.sipr.ucl.ac.be/register/?study=1 or https://languagelab.sipr.ucl.ac.be/register/1
• The study defines a specific registration flow:
  1. consent, 2. register, 3. info, 4. test=typing#1, 5. test=35[vocab], 6. continue
