Multiple messages sent

As we neared the end of our chat today (at 11:01), I opened the Gitlab window (without closing the LL tabs). When I did this, apparently I went offline to Victoria. She saw a red dot next to my name, and she couldn't send any messages. She had typed a message and pressed enter 4 times. Rather than sending the message, it went to a new line of text. However, when I came back to the LL tab, I received multiple identical messages.

When her messages wouldn't send, Victoria said she then opened a new conversation with me and tried to send messages. In the new conversation, which I was not active in, she said my dot was red (offline), but she could send messages. (I was not in that conversation, so I didn't receive any alerts about these messages.) My status was also 'offline'/red in the present chat. When she came back to the present chat, she could still see all the messages. However, then she went back to the other conversation (to see my online status), and when she returned to the original chat, the messages after 11:02 had disappeared. (cf. #90 (closed))

Note that this didn't happen earlier in the conversation when we were testing alert sounds (cf. #100). At that point, when I went to a new tab/window, I did not appear as offline, Victoria could send me messages without issue, and I received only one of each message that she sent.

We had a similar thing happen again today with the multiple messages being sent, so I'm reopening this issue. I had sent a message saying:

'[You show as offline in that window.]'

I then tried to edit that message to say '...offline (red dot) in...'. However, when I pressed 'save' or 'cancel', nothing happened. I then tried to send a new message (with the edit message still open), saying

'[I just edited that last message to include (red dot) – can you see the edit?]'

When I pressed enter, the cursor moved to a new line of text, and the message was not sent. I tried multiple times with pressing enter, and I also clicked on the 'send' button. Finally, I refreshed the page, and the message had sent four times.

It's not clear at what point the message changed for @VictoriaDemierbe; i.e. whether when I clicked 'save', it changed the message for her but it glitched on my end, or if the save wasn't committed until I refreshed the page.

Later on in the conversation, I went to edit a message to which Victoria had added an underline. I added text at the end of the message, i.e. not where the underline was, to see if the underline would still be removed (it was) and if the text would be duplicated (it wasn't). However, again, when I clicked on either 'save' or 'cancel', nothing happened. I refreshed the window, and the edited message was displayed.

Further on in our chat, I tried to send the message

'(Et elle est française, donc... hahaha)'

When I pressed enter, the cursor went to a new line and the message didn't send. I pressed backspace and enter again, and the message sent twice:

It's possible in this latter case that when I pressed enter the first time, I may have still been pressing 'shift' (from the close brackets – I'm using a QWERTY keyboard and typing quickly), thus the combination shift+enter results in a line break, and maybe this had something to do with the glitch. (At the same time, at the start of the conversation, I sent a multi-line message, using shift+enter to add line breaks, and that message sent without an issue.)

This problem seems to be related to #102 (closed) #126 (closed). The entire user interface sometimes froze when editing a message, so that new messages were not shown as sent, even though they were. I have been able to reproduce on the last version before the fix, but no more after.
