When we leave the LL tab while chatting, we hear an alert when we receive new messages.
This is useful (if one of us had gone into another tab or another app, and then the other one sends a message, it lets us know that) BUT the sound is a rather piercing “ding”, so maybe it can be improved a bit.
Maybe lower the pitch slightly, and improve the audio quality for a purer 'ding', rather than a scratchy-sounding noise . Tyler thinks the audio is clipping, so maybe it is a volume issue, not with his speakers but on the audio itself?

The following was noted today about the alert sounds:
When I opened a second chat window, initially I didn't hear any alert sounds (from either tab) as messages were both sent and received. (Victoria sent two messages while I was in the new tab, and neither produced an alert sound.)
I then went to a different tab (not a LL tab) on one screen and activated a different application on the other screen (I'm working with a two-screen setup). The first time Victoria sent a message, I didn't get an alert until I went back to the conversation tab. (It's possible that I just happened to return to the tab at the exact moment she sent a message.)
We tried this again – I switched to a different non-LL tab and opened another application. This time, an alert was received in the most recently active LL tab. (So there weren't two alerts, one from each tab, and there wasn't an alert from the first tab I had opened.)
I then went back to the original conversation tab and then returned to the new tab. After this, alerts were received whenever a message was sent (whether from Victoria or by me) in the non-active LL tab. (So if I was in the new tab, the alert came in the first tab; if I was in the first tab, the alert came in the new tab.)
We noted that it doesn't make sense for an alert to be sounded for the person sending the message. (For example, if I send a message, I shouldn't hear an alert, but I do.) However, the tutor should receive an alert from another student if they have multiple conversations open. (And in our context, we both had opened two tabs of the same conversation, which would not normally be the case.)
For next week, we're going to test this. I will create a second student account, and we will initiate two chat sessions. (So, for Victoria, it will be as if she is talking to two different students.) What we anticipate is that:
When I send a message as student A, I will not hear an alert either in window A or window B.
When Victoria sends a message to student A, she will not hear an alert from window B.
When Victoria is in window A and receives a message from student B, she will receive an alert in window B and not in window A.
(Of course, it will not be 'normal' that a tutor is talking to two students simultaneously, but we're testing this for the case when there may be overlap, such as when the tutor is wrapping up with one student and the next student has already come online.)
Today, I had LL open in a background tab with a different tab active (on screen 1), and a different window open (and active) on screen 2. When @VictoriaDemierbe sent a message, I did not receive an alert. When I reactivated the LL tab, I received an alert sound. I then went back to a different tab in that window (so LL was in the background) and activated the window on my other screen. I received an alert when she sent a message. Then I kept LL in the foreground on screen 1 and activated a window on screen 2, and I did not receive an alert when she sent a message.
